A car crash causes Ruby’s parents’ death. Her ex-neighbours are given guardianship of her and her brother, but they behave bizarrely when they realise that Ruby and her brother have inherited $4 million.
Written by Wesley Strick and directed by Daniel Sackheim this early 00’s psychological thriller has been a favourite of mine since its release and its another I feel is underrated. With a provocative and twisted script that’s full of tension and suspense, a good tone-setting score by Christopher Young and great performances from a talented cast which includes Leelee Sobieski, Diane Lane, Bruce Dern, Kathy Baker, Trevor Morgan, Chris Noth, Rita Wilson, Vyto Ruginis, Gavin O’Connor, Carly Pope, China Shavers, Agnes Bruckner, Michael Paul Chan, Rachel Wilson, Rutanya Alda, John Billingsley and a very sinister Stellan Skarsgård. All in all a lot of this movie may seem implausible, but it’s well made and it’s worth watching just for Skarsgård’s performance alone.
